BLUE MED hosted the Research Workshop on Interdependencies within ATM Performance

On 21-22-23 October 2020 the BLUE MED FAB hosted the Research Workshop on Interdependencies within ATM Performance in the Context of a Dynamic Environment, organized by BLUE MED and FABEC in partnership with GARS (German Aviation Research Society) and the University of Bologna. Initially scheduled in May 2020, it was converted into a virtual event due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The workshop – moderated by Mariagrazia La Piscopia, Chief Strategy and Programme Management SDM – started with an initial “Setting the Scene” section, where ENAV CEO Paolo Simioni (representing the BLUE MED FAB), DG Move Director Filip Cornelis and DFS CEO Prof. Klaus Dieter-Scheurle (as Member of the FABEC CEO Board) delivered their perspectives and wishes for the workshop; then, a ‘fireside talk’ between NM Eurocontrol Director Iacopo Prissinotti and deputy DSNA CEO Eric Bruneau took place; the presentation of research papers was divided into three thematic panels; the Conclusive Panel – moderated by Luca Falessi from ENAC (BLUE MED NSA Committee Member) saw the participation of eminent personalities from the aviation sector (Magdalena Jaworska, PRB; Eric De Vries, Civil Aviation Directorate Netherlands; Prof. Hartmut Fricke, Technical University of Dresden and Maurizio Paggetti, ENAV COO and BLUE MED ANSPC Member, who also delivered the closing statement).

The workshop provided insights on interdependencies between the four Key Performance Areas (capacity, safety, cost efficiency, environment), a particularly sensitive topic today, when at European level is being discussed the revision of the performance and charging scheme in the single European sky and exceptional measures due to the consequences of COVID-19 pandemic.
